Family situation

  • Cyril was born on Christmas Day 1919 into a family of seven who lived in a cottage on Common Lane.
  • He attended Betley School.

Employment

  • He worked as a farm labourer and later on a building site in Alsager.      

Service

  • Although he had the chance to return to farming as a reserved occupation he enlisted in the Royal Engineers as a sapper.
  • He served in Cyprus and North Africa.
  • The circumstances of his death do not appear to be known and he is recorded as missing in action.
