Biography – Basil Owen Tatham
Family situation and military service

  • After Charterhouse School Basil was gazetted into the 3rd Battalion East Yorks Regiment.
  • 3 years later farmed in NW Rhodesia for two years; then the Federated Malay Sates to work for the Malay Rubber Planters Ltd.
  • In 1912 appointed manager of the Parit Bruas Rubber Co, and resigned his commission in the special reserve.
  • When war broke out he offered his service to the British govt. and was re-gazetted to his old regiment.
  • He was killed in the Second Battle of Ypres on 23rd April 1915.
